Little Grains, a World of Change

The humble grain of rice changed the world. Today we’re harnessing it to transform the lives of our farmers and communities. We’re helping farmers change the way they grow, for greater yields that are kinder on the planet.
We’re creating change in their communities through better education and living standards. And, when you purchase Tilda, you create change in some of the world’s poorest communities through Mary’s Meals – providing school meals for children, changing lives over lunch.
It’s rice that makes a world of change to the planet we all share.

When you buy Tilda rice you’re supporting our commitment to support the communities where our product is grown – creating a brighter future for people and the planet.
We’re proud to officially be the first rice company in the UK to achieve B Corp certification.

Mary’s Meals is a Scotland based charity serving nutritious school meals to children living in some of the world’s poorest countries. Providing these children with a good meal aids the energy and ability to learn and encourage a positive future.
Girls make up 50% of the children Mary’s Meals feed across the global programme. According to UNICEF, only 49% of countries have an even gender split in primary education. Mary’s Meals are striving to offer girls the chance to one day grow up well-nourished and well-educated, to become the women who will lift their communities out of poverty.
Tilda supports Mary’s Meals by donating a school meal for every bag of Easy Cook Brown & White, Easy Cook Brown Wholegrain and Brown Basmati products sold.

OUR VISIT TO NEW DELHI
Tilda Foodservice visited New Delhi in September 2024 with the winners of Zest Quest Asia – a team competition designed to demonstrate the student competitor’s culinary expertise through Asian cuisine. The winning team visited India to see first-hand the good Mary’s Meals are doing.
During their visit, they visited Karim’s iconic restaurant in Delhi, explored the city, discovered Tilda’s Basmati rice production and most importantly, experienced an eye-opening visit to a school where Mary’s Meals are served, hearing from the volunteer cooks, students and farmers behind the charity and what their day-to-day life looks like.
“During our visit to India, we visited a small school where Mary’s Meals are served everyday. Mary’s Meals take children who are less fortunate and provides them with a hot meal every day while they are in education.
It was heart-warming to see just how much it meant to the children and how enthusiastic they were to be at school.”
Beth Brewster – Student of The Sheffield College

“It was very eye-opening to visit the school where Mary’s Meals provides a hot meal for the children.
I felt sad for the kids there but also very inspired at what Mary’s Meals were doing. All the staff and children seemed very happy and enthusiastic about the school and that was nice to see.
Tilda sponsor hot meals for the school via Mary’s Meals and it was a good experience to see how they run it and how grateful the staff and children were.”
Joe Defries – Student of The Sheffield College

“The visit to the school, and seeing the fabulous work undertaken by Mary’s Meals, was timed just right. We had a great 10 days eating in and visiting great places around India, to be brought back down to earth seeing such abject poverty. It is great to see that charities such as Mary’s Meals, and kindly assisted by Tilda, make such a difference to the children’s lives. Alleviating hunger while encouraging education by ensuring children receive nutritious meals in their place of learning can only be a good thing and hopefully, in the future, will break the cycle of poverty.
I hope Mary’s Meals grows from strength to strength and can keep on doing the most valuable work for underprivileged children.”
